Reviveing old mobiles?

Although for some time I'm using an iPhone 4, I 've no intention to upgrade to a newer model. Contrariwise, occasionaly I'm fed up with it. So, I'm contemplating to fall back to my much older Nokia E71. Of course, I'll lose quite a few apps - but, to be honest, most of them I haven't used too often ...

Re: Japanese drummers

BTW, can anyone on here tell me what "Kumo-nagaruru-hate" means? Interesting; it looks like it's a movie about Japanese college student who were drafted into the ranks of the Kamikaze pilots toward the end of World War II: http://www.worldcat.org/identities/lccn-nr94-33703/ Funny - that's...

Japanese drummers

Are Yamato or Kodo still active? Once upon a time, I heard the latter in a rather terrific concert.

BTW, can anyone on here tell me what "Kumo-nagaruru-hate" means?

Re: Stephen Hawking

Last book I read though on the state of the Universe was "The Whole Shebang" by Timothy Ferris. It was a great read (15 ears ago ish) but later I found out he wasn't really a scientist but a journalist. So my knowledge of the Universe falls under Disneyfied. Wish many so-called scientists...

[…]but in terms of his status as the "most famous scientist in the world," I think there are at least three physicists whose work has been more significant, Alan Guth, Andrei Linde, and John Preskill. The respective merit of Hawkins/Guth/Linde/Preskill is open to debate. But I venture to ...

Re: Happy Holidays :)

But don't forget - this very moment you dine on turkey or whatever quite a few children die of hunger.
And besides, probably the majority of people doesn't care for a 'merry' X-mas, or a candle-lit tree at all. So, enjoy your meal -:(

Re: A curious proposal

Does APL2 use the same glyphs as the rest of the world? Or is it still that mystical runic symbolism which invokes loki every time you attempt to write a program in it o.0 [Sorry for replying so late - was abroad for some time] Yes, APL still uses these characters - with good reasons (see Iverson, ...

A curious proposal

A member of our government proposed to provide free tablets and smartphones to every school-kid. Fine. Not hardly necessary - over here all kids are fingering their mobiles all the time. BUT - he also proposed that all should learn a programming language. Here is the catch. Which language? FP, APL2,...

Re: Raymond Smullyan

Sorry for being late - but I found out just now that he died in February [aged 97]. Not that too many of you will be familiar with that name - he got his doctorate under Church, and he was arguably among the greatest logicians of the 20th centuary. I have all of his books - logic puzzles (e.g., &quo...
