Re: Happy Holidays :)

But don't forget - this very moment you dine on turkey or whatever quite a few children die of hunger.
And besides, probably the majority of people doesn't care for a 'merry' X-mas, or a candle-lit tree at all. So, enjoy your meal -:(

Re: A curious proposal

Does APL2 use the same glyphs as the rest of the world? Or is it still that mystical runic symbolism which invokes loki every time you attempt to write a program in it o.0 [Sorry for replying so late - was abroad for some time] Yes, APL still uses these characters - with good reasons (see Iverson, ...

Re: How to measure time?

my daily drivers are the Tutima DI300 and Sinn 142, both titanium watches. i had a bit of a heureka moment regarding that material years back and can not wear steel anymore. :) restricts one's choices quite a bit. still, i have a Tudor Pelagos incoming and there are plans for an IWC but that's for ...

A curious proposal

A member of our government proposed to provide free tablets and smartphones to every school-kid. Fine. Not hardly necessary - over here all kids are fingering their mobiles all the time. BUT - he also proposed that all should learn a programming language. Here is the catch. Which language? FP, APL2,...

Re: Raymond Smullyan

Sorry for being late - but I found out just now that he died in February [aged 97]. Not that too many of you will be familiar with that name - he got his doctorate under Church, and he was arguably among the greatest logicians of the 20th centuary. I have all of his books - logic puzzles (e.g., &quo...

Re: Any chemists on board?

I think that the word chemist in this context is a bit misleading since i think the OP means creating Pharmaceutical compounds by regular chemistry master students (of which i happen to be one). Or do Americans/Brits use the word "chemist" to designate "pharmaceutist"? :) DUNNO....

Re: Any chemists on board?

Question I have is why do you need to be a chemist to manage yourself using Ps or Ts? ;) Call me a coward - but as a non-chemist, I'd not dare to try my hands on any of Shulgin's recipes at all [the Kindle edition makes fascinating entertainment when riding the subway, though]. Besides, reading Ive...

Re: How to measure time?

I own too many watches. Most of them are quartz based [among of them a Seiko "Final Fantasy"], but also some analog ones, like the Porsche Design Titanium from the early '80s. Nowadays I don't care for them anymore. For about 15 years, my EDW is an Audemars-Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chrono...

Which ones? I've quite a few old DOS stuff [including one where - due to a bug - I'd to guess the password to get the next level].
