PDB molecule renderer for IRIX

I know there are a few people here who do molecular modelling...I ran across this which is now being made available free of charge. It is called POVChem and there is a binary for IRIX as well as source code. It takes a PDB 3d molecular file and will render it through POV-ray: http://www.chemicalgrap...

Re: [DoveBid] Onyx and Crimson

I live in St Louis, but I am currently out of the country and will not be back until April. That being said, I may know a couple of friends there who I may be able to coax to pick up some stuff... Would definately have to work things out ahead of time though. Too bad really... sure wish I was still ...

Re: [DoveBid]Origin 3000 & Altix 3000 (Reading, PA, USA)

Only issue I can see for the Altix is trying to "acquire" the special Linux operating system. Unless I am mistaken and there is just an Itanium2 port of Linux that will run on this.

I would bet it could be had somewhere...

IRIX on the other hand isn't really an issue obviously

Re: [DoveBid]Origin 3000 & Altix 3000 (Reading, PA, USA)

I knew some systems were going to come up with CX Bricks... 16 processors in each one of those babies :D Well I do enjoy what I am doing now, but if I were still in the states I would be all over this. I took a trip to ATL for two normal O3k's...this is one hell of a way to get a nice compact little...

Need basic server for nas/filesharing

I am looking for a reasonably fast server (>2GHz x 2 Proc) with raid 5 storage and gigabit. Thought I would check here first...hopefully someone has one they dont need anymore due to an upgrade. I have made it to medschool and gave away all of my SGI stuff, but now I find that I need a reliable serv...

Re: DIVO on Octane & Onyx2

Exactly...I am sure that is the command I was using. If you type in -help or something there is a huge list of options to be used on capture from bit depth to compression (and specifics within compression), etc. That is also where you can use the 4:4:4:4 dual link capability of the board with genloc...

Re: DIVO on Octane & Onyx2

Thanks for the referal Dr. Dave ;) The best (and only because I stopped looking when I found a way that worked) way is through command line, but it can be a bit tedious. There is a listing of all available modes/options for the divo card...man DIVO? Let me check my notes (if I still have them)...oth...

Re: O200 newbie question

If it is working ok, then the first thing to do before anything else would be to clone the root drive. There is a walkthrough of the procedure on here, just search. If you do this, then you will have a duplicate drive with your L**** on it and you can play all you want with the backup and know you h...

I am in Saint Louis, too. Could help out getting stuff to others if needed. I have picked up from them before.

Re: R1x000 floating point performance?

The octanes (or really any sgi for that matter) are not good for integer tasks, for example my 7-year old p4 (running windows xp) will thoroughly mop the floor with the octane when it comes to web browsing with firefox, octane is even slower with seamonkey or the included netscape then my pc with f...

Re: R1x000 floating point performance?

If dexter's Origin had a lot more memory, I wouldn't doubt the result - you can stuff a lot more memory in an Origin than most PC's! This used to be true...but definately not anymore. Much more true with O2k, but he was talking about an O200 which can only hold a max of 4GB (right??). Octane does m...

Very odd bidding pattern though with that (0) history bidder jacking up the price to just under the last bidder...Hmmmm

Re: F220 Flatscreen monitor - need ac adapter brick

Perhaps you could take the monitor with you to one of the larger stores and try out some of the universal AC adapters...they come with numerous changeable plugs and the polarity can be selected as well. See if you can match it...at least worth a try.
