Re: FS: Sun SPARCStation 5 170MHz system

Mia, still no reply to emails, PMs or this. I can't imagine what P-engineer could have had in mind for posting this if he wasn't interested in actually finding someone to buy it?? Probably he realized that $90 shipped was essentially giving it away for free, as it'll cost that much alone in shipping.

Re: Need tips for converting a bunch of Anime DVD's...

I use Handbrake and rip to .m4v format. It works really well. I have all 400+ of my DVD's stored like this now. Handbrake allows you to choose whether to rip the subtitles into a separate subtitles file, or whether to embed the subtitle text directly into the video. Ripping to a separate file allows...

Like it says, looking for a PowerPC system from Pegasos.

Either a complete machine, or just the motherboard.

Re: WTB dec alpha 164LX board

Pardon mon perpetual ignorance, but what are these boards good for? Does this give you an Alpha in a standard PC case? Is it just a drop-in that uses PC power supplies, IDE/SATA drives and PCI cards etc? Edit: Found some threads here on this. Wow! How come I never learn about the interesting stuff ...

Re: WTB dec alpha 164LX board

Like is says, I'm looking for the 164LX board with EV56 Alpha in ATX form factor. Let me know if you've got one for sale. Thanks I had been looking for one, for some time now too that wasn't crazy priced. Good luck! These used to be $50 on ebay easy to find and cheap. Not any more apparently. :|

Re: Portable workstations?

1. Lazy research on your part. Yes ECC SODIMMS exist, example: http://www.adata-group.com/index.php?action=product_feature&cid=6&piid=174 2. *and* are a quarter of the performance per watt. Pointless to push for unless you are hoping it would make it cheaper. 3. Who needs SAS in a workstati...

Re: Portable workstations?

Thanks for the interesting link, I had not heard of them before. Looks like their only model with server chips is the "Panther 5SE". A couple show stoppers for me: 1. It says it "supports" ECC, but it uses SO-DIMM laptop memory, of which I've never seen ECC sticks available. Even...

Portable workstations?

Something I've been curious about, why the dearth of portable workstation class hardware? Try and find a portable laptop style computer that uses a 64 bit CPU, ECC memory, and SAS hard drives. They don't exist. Sure there's the occasional model from General Dynamics and other defense contractors, bu...

Re: 3dLabs Graphics Cards

Cool, I used to support a bunch of Intergraph CAD workstations ~12 years ago, and they all used 3dLabs Wildcat cards. Those were some serious hardware back then! There was even some bizarre multi-board cards, where one board plugged into AGP, and others into PCI, and a bridge ribbon cable between th...
