UK - FS: Deskside Onyx RE2

Hi I've got a big old deskside Onyx sitting in my living room which I need to get rid of as I need the space for a new sofa :) Spec is : 4 x R10K 195MHz 2MB Cache 1GB of RAM made up from 16*64MB , so only half the board is populated. Plenty of room for another Gig of RAM! Reality Engine 2 graphics w...

Re: Onyx desktop still not working.

Do you still have the IP19? Test it with the IP19 installed and if it works then it's probably the IP4 revision. Unfortunately I got rid of my IP19 boards ages ago, although testing my system with them would require a complete re-install of Irix wouldn't it? As for which IO4 revision I've got, sure...

Re: Onyx desktop still not working.

hinv reports the IO4 revision as 1, and flashio -v reports revision 421. I'm not sure how upgrading the processors would stop the operating system from working correctly. The graphics console works and I can boot to an Irix command prompt so I remain convinced that the fault lies with the software, ...

Re: Onyx desktop still not working.

I'll do the gfxinfo -vv test in the morning - I'm off to bed in a minute. As for the graphics, its an RE2 system, with 2 RM4s. It did have 4 RM4s, but theres a fault with one of them.

Onyx desktop still not working.

I've got a deskside Onyx which I'm still having a few problems with. The story goes like this : Many moons ago I bought a pair of ex-Royal Navy deskside Onyxes, one of which I got working, and the other was stripped for parts. I bought a hard drive and cd drive, and managed to get Irix installed and...

Re: Done with Nekochan.net

i took the opportunity to have a 160amp installed instead of the 120amp one for my electric supercharger this winter. Electric supercharger? Now I wonder why the major car manufacturers don't use these? Oh, thats right. Its because they don't work all that well! If you really must use one, you'll n...

Re: Re-capping electronics

I've recently re-capped the power supply in my little Shuttle XPC. Apparently the Achme brand (yes, really...) PSUs are reknowned for poor-quality caps. One thing you need to check is that the new caps are the same physical size as the bad caps. My PSU was so cramped the caps I'd bought wouldn't fit...

Free, but not open-sourced is the Indigo renderer. With name like that it needs to get ported onto SGI hardware!

Re: getting Octane to work with my monitor - won't display graph

Since both of your monitors seem to support SOG, it may be as simple as an option in their menu systems that needs to be changed. My mitsubishi, which is quite old now, has a little switch on the back to change between SOG and non-SOG signals. New monitors should do this automatically, but its also ...

Re: getting Octane to work with my monitor - won't display graph

I have a 13W3-VGA cable with pin 13 removed, which should get it to work in any old VGA monitor. Theres your problem :) Your Octane will need a sync-on-green capable monitor. You can't use any old monitor, no matter how much cable voodoo you try. Through my computing life I've accumulated several d...

Re: getting Octane to work with my monitor - won't display graph

If it was working fine before the move, then your problems have most likely been caused by moving it! Try reseating the graphics card and motherboard, but don't touch the compression connectors. At all!! They are extremely sensitive to physical damage. When I bought my Octane a few years ago half of...
