The switch to FreeBSD happened sometime between September 2009 and January 2010.

Re: SGI Fuel with Ryzen 5 2400G?

Incidentally, it's worth noting that I work with a *very* large multinational company that still has a whole shop-floor full of CNC machines that are controlled via Windows 95 consoles. That's been out of support for far longer than IRIX has, yet they're still used daily and they still work fine. I...

Re: Octane networking... just not working :o

Now the question is.. what bloomin file did I edit to do so.. I will have to get back on that. From memory, I think it would be /etc/config/ifconfig-X.options, where X is the interface number, e.g. 1, 2, etc., but check the ifconfig man page to make sure that my memory isn't off target. Each config...

How are you burning the img files? Do you know if the image files are complete images of the original CDs, including all partitions? Please be specific about what you are doing.

This is my 3,362nd post. By uunix's formula, that works out to being just a little more than 56 INDYs!

I'd better make some room in my basement before the Nekofairy delivers all the INDYs that I'm owed!

Re: Installing Firefox on Octane. Lots of dependencies.

The tar -xvzf option which is supposed to unzip them says illegal option. Though that is what multiple sites say opens a TGIF file. For what it's worth, that's to be expected on IRIX. The z option (which is what unpacks gzipped files) is for GNU tar. IRIX tar doesn't have it. If you have neko_tar (...

I'm not a camera buff, but I thought this photo essay about Hasselblad's camera assembly process was pretty interesting:

Yes, it was shut down when Apple moved from MobileMe to iCloud in 2012.

Re: Mac Pro El Capitan Recovery?

Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions for you, pentium, though I suspect that as Apple seems to be delivering more and more automated updates without user permission, it's only going to get more and more difficult to run current software on unsupported Macs, especially Macs with custom upgrade...

Re: Computer with a real serial port

You can get PCMCIA cards for laptops that add proper hardware ports. I have a parallel port one for an old laptop of mine. Or, the Dell Latitude D630 is a good bet. Core 2 Duo, can take 4GB of RAM and an SSD if required, runs Windows 7 fine (or whatever else you want), and has a proper serial port ...

Re: WTB: Powerbook G4, 12in / 1.5GHz

I have one that's working but doesn't save PRAM settings for whatever reason. I've got a charger and two extra batteries for it. That's a PRAM battery failure and can easily be fixed. The 12" PowerBook G4 doesn't actually have a PRAM battery. It has a small, 0.022 F, 5.5 V capacitor that norma...
